The Canadian government introduces a new program to unite Ukrainian families by providing permanent residence in the country
Ukrainians temporarily residing in Canada and seeking permanent residence can take advantage of various programs and visa categories to obtain permanent resident status or even Canadian citizenship.
Keep in mind that the process of obtaining a visa or permanent resident status can be complicated and time-consuming. Below you will find the main steps to apply for a permanent residence visa for Ukrainians in Canada.
What you need for permanent residence in Canada:
This support program is available to those who came to Canada after the large-scale Russian invasion and wish to settle here.
To be eligible for the program, Ukrainian citizens must be in Canada with temporary resident status and have relatives who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The program is open to spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, children and grandchildren of Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
After arriving in Canada, temporary residents can apply for an extension of stay for up to three years, but they need to have study or work permits to do so. Additionally, refugees have access to housing, language courses, and employment assistance upon arrival in Canada. Obtaining a visa for Ukrainians is free of charge.
Ukrainian citizens who hold visas can travel to Canada until March 31, 2024 under special temporary measures.
