Europe is hit by massive flooding
Local authorities expect the water in Wroclaw to peak on Thursday, September 19.
The large-scale flooding that hit Eastern Europe over the weekend is approaching Wroclaw, Poland, one of the most popular cities among Ukrainians.
It is noted that local authorities expect the water to peak in Wroclaw on Thursday, September 19. At the water level measurement station near Wroclaw, on the banks of the Oder River, the water level has already significantly exceeded the alarm level.
Residents of the city are preparing for high water. People have fortified the river banks and protected buildings with sandbags, while soldiers have built sandbag walls to the south.
"We are focusing on keeping the Oder within its banks. We are facing a very difficult ten hours," said Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak. Poland's Defense Ministry reported that more than 14,000 soldiers have been deployed to the flood-affected regions. The ministry added that the armed forces are using helicopters to evacuate people and strengthen flood protection, while drones are monitoring the situation from above.
