Ukraine has won another gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Cyclist Yegor Dementiev won the group road race (class C5).
At the finish line, the Ukrainian was ahead of the Frenchmen Kevin le Canff and Gatien le Rousseau, as well as the Dutchman Marten van de Pol, with whom he rode in the group of leaders throughout the entire distance.
This is Dementiev's fourth Paralympic gold medal in his career and the first in 12 years. In total, this is Yegor's ninth medal at the Paralympics (he won six in road racing and three in cycling).
This is Ukraine's 16th gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games. The Blue and Yellows have already won 64 medals: 16 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze.
As of now, Ukraine ranks seventh in the medal standings and is fourth in the number of awards.
Only para athletes from China, the United Kingdom, and the United States have won more medals. The Paralympic Games in Paris will last until September 8.
Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.
