Biden confirms that Ukraine will receive F-16 fighter jets after the exercise
"The United States will approve the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine after the training of Ukrainian pilots is completed," - the White House confirmed. The information was provided by Sullivan during a press conference at Camp David, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed receipt of a letter from US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, addressed to his colleagues in Denmark and the Netherlands. This letter "formalizes" the US intention, in consultation with the Congress, to approve the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine after the training of Ukrainian pilots is completed.
"This is a natural next step after what President Biden announced in Hiroshima," - Sullivan said, emphasizing that the US president had already announced training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16s at the Group of Seven summit in Japan.
Sullivan also noted that the United States has not retreated from its intention to provide fighter jets to Kyiv, and this week these intentions were reinforced and emphasized.
It is worth noting that in mid-July, 11 partner countries, together with Ukraine, signed a memorandum that sets out the conditions for training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets. The training was scheduled to begin in August, but, according to media reports, the United States has not yet approved the final training plan, as European states have not agreed on all its details.
