Ukrainian Paralympians were banned from wearing uniforms with a map of Ukraine in 1991
They strictly forbade the map of a sovereign independent Ukraine [with Crimea] on the uniform, but we pushed through our demands that Ukraine in its internationally recognized borders be on our uniforms. They claimed that our uniforms were too military in design and banned the additional green-military color that appeared on our uniforms. We were able to prove our legal case and the Ukrainian perception of all the colors of our uniforms.
In addition to the traditional yellow, blue and white, the Ukrainian Paralympians' uniforms featured a protective green. That's why international sports officials called the design too military. Another prominent element is a map of Ukraine with the 1991 borders, including the Crimean peninsula.
Speka wrote that the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris opened on the evening of August 28 and in which sports Ukrainian Paralympians will compete on August 29.
