Security agreement: Ukraine will start a dialog with the US
Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said on his Telegram channel on Sunday, July 30, that Kyiv plans to start negotiations with the United States on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees next week.
According to Yermak, this agreement will be in effect until Ukraine joins NATO, which he called "the most reliable guarantee of security." He explained that for the transitional period, while the war in Ukraine continues and the country cannot join NATO, Ukraine needs reliable security guarantees.
As a result of the work of the international working group, which Yermak chairs together with former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, a Joint Declaration of the G7 and Ukraine was adopted in Vilnius.
More than a dozen other countries have already joined this Declaration, and new states are joining almost every week, Yermak said. Ukraine plans to conclude a number of bilateral agreements that will contain specific security guarantees with the parties to the Declaration.
"We start negotiations with the United States next week," the head of the Presidential Office wrote. According to him, the talks will include "clearly defined formats and mechanisms of support," including defense and financial support, as well as sanctions and punishment for the aggressor.
It should be noted that US President Joe Biden has instructed the Pentagon to send up to 3,000 reserve troops to Europe amid Russia's war in Ukraine. The White House has denied that the US military is involved in the Ukrainian conflict.
