9,369 civilians killed and 16,646 injured in Ukraine as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion - UN
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has confirmed 9,369 civilian deaths and 16,646 injuries in Ukraine as a result of large-scale Russian aggression. This is the data collected by the organization from February 24, 2022 to July 30, 2023, and published today.
The UN emphasizes that the actual number of casualties could be much higher, as the collection of information from the sites of active hostilities is delayed and many reports are still awaiting confirmation.
"This applies, for example, to Mariupol (Donetsk region), Lysychansk, Popasna and Severodonetsk (Luhansk region), where there have been many reported cases of civilian deaths and injuries," the statement said.
According to the UN, between July 1 and July 30, they were able to confirm the deaths of 143 civilians (including four children) and the injuries of 605 (including 35 children).
In mid-July, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said that more than 50 Russian servicemen had been convicted in Ukrainian courts for crimes committed in Ukraine. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, 98,100 crimes of aggression and war crimes have been registered in Ukraine so far, of which more than 95,000 are under the article on violation of the laws and customs of war.
