Songs of Ukraine
Ukraine is a country of rich musical tradition that is largely unknown in the West. From the 18th century onward, Ukraine produced a slew of remarkable composers. Their contributions include opera, chamber music, and large-scale choral and symphonic works. This program spotlights the songs of the founder of Ukrainian romantic tradition, Mykola Lysenko, the persecuted 20th-century composer Vasyl Barvinsky, and the works of the living composer Myroslav Volynsky. Additionally, you will hear the newly composed “Ukrainian Rhapsody” by Alexander Rosenblatt and the arrangements of beloved folk melodies.
